Premier Inn Location Series | Doha Education City

26 Nov 2019

Wander to the western edge of Doha and you’ll discover Education City. A dynamic hub for art, education and the sciences, Doha’s Education City is an expansive campus spread over 12 square kilometers and featuring multiple educational and research institutes.

Situated next to the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) in Doha Education City, our hotel’s enviable location gives visitors access to a vibrant community that fuses modernity and cultural tradition.

From weekend dune bashing to camping under a starry night’s sky and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, stay at one of the best hotels in Doha Education City and discover a pathway to some of the city's most cosmopolitan and natural wonders.

A regional culture unlike any other

Founded by the Qatar Foundation, Education City has blossomed to become the defining legacy of Sheikha Moza bint Nasser al-Missned, consort of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar.

As Chair of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Sheikha Mozah has overseen the expansion of this important cultural sector in Doha. From a single school campus, Education City today is a close-knit community of world-leading educational institutions, start-up incubators, heritage sites, collaborative initiatives, and so much more.

Things to do at Education City

Strategically located 30 minutes west of Hamad International Airport, this unique ecosystem is the gateway to discovering all of Doha’s major destinations. You don’t even need to go far to see some of the city’s most ambitious projects as many sites are less than an hour’s drive from our hotel.

The Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Qatar National Library and Education City Mosque are architectural masterpieces worth a visit and are less than five kilometers from Premier Inn Doha Education City Hotel.

The mosque is one of Mangera Yvars’ spectacular designs, resting on five main columns, which represents the five pillars of Islam. The fluid, white cavernous structure displays embossed verses from the Holy Quran, echoing the sentiment that Islamic architecture can be modern, progressive, and a beacon of hope for positive change.

For those with more active pursuits, Education City has several community development initiatives such as Oxygen Park, a 130,000-square-meter green space and the “green lung” of the community. Enthusiasts also make sure to visit the Education City Golf Club, a state-of-the-art golf facility in the community.

Exploring Doha’s cosmopolitan cityscape

Explore a bit further and you will get to see Doha’s architectural wonders take center stage. A stopover at Qatar’s capital can include ancient landscapes, architectural treasures and Bedouin marketplaces that offer an old-world feel.

A can’t-miss attraction in the heart of Doha is the Museum of Islamic Art. This world-class museum, designed by master architect I.M. Pei, features rare collections that include exquisitely painted Persian pottery and ancient Quranic manu##s.

Traditional markets called souqs provide visitors with an authentic taste of Qatar’s culture. Packable souvenirs can be found here, as well as Middle Eastern merchandise, ornate jewelry and handicrafts, and seasonal delicacies.

There’s also the Doha Corniche, a seven-kilometer waterfront promenade, offering spectacular views of the city and its towering skyscrapers. A walk along this pedestrianised public space provides numerous activities for visitors, from fine dining with a sea view to harbourfront cruises in traditional wooden dhow boats.

Looking ahead

With Qatar winning the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, development to create seven new state-of-the-art stadiums is well underway. These tournament venues will have advanced open-air cooling technology to combat the desert’s stifling heat.

Education City will play host to one of these stadiums, the Education City Stadium, with a number of build up events scheduled ahead of the main tournament.

Getting around

To get around town and experience seamless travel between attractions, visitors can book Careem trips or Karwa taxis. Taxis and Careem services are reasonably priced. For example, hiring a Karwa taxi will start at QR4 and cost QR1.60/1.80 per kilometer.

Taxis can also be booked at our 24-hour reception desk.

A well-planned public transit system runs along many city routes and operates every 15 to 30 minutes. Each sheltered bus stop will display a timetable so you know when the next bus will arrive.

To use public transit, purchase a Karwa Smartcard. Otherwise, a single journey will cost QR10.

Guests to our Education City hotel can also make use of our complimentary shuttle service. For your convenience, our free shuttle service stops at locations across Education City, Mall of Qatar, and the City Center West Bay at pre-scheduled times.

Speak to a member of our hotel team, as they will be more than happy to assist any visitor wanting to use our complimentary shuttle service.
