The Great Outdoors | Where to go for a walk in Dubai

14 Jan 2021

We’re taking a look at the best places to go for a walk in Dubai, where you can enjoy the great outdoors whilst discovering the city around you.

The best weather for walking in Dubai is through the winter months, October through to late March, where temperatures are cooler and more comfortable for outdoor adventures. Remember to stick to recommended paths and sidewalks, and not to wander on to Dubai’s super-highways!

Be sure to wear sun lotion, sunglasses and sunhat to protect against the sun’s rays and comfortable shoes when you’re out for a walk. Always carry a bottle of water to keep hydrated, and pack your phone or camera to snap the all-important selfie at Dubai’s iconic landmarks.

If you need a break from your desk, or just arrived after a long flight, it’s good to get out and stretch your legs or take an evening stroll to clear your head before getting a good night’s sleep at Premier Inn hotels in Dubai.

1. Burj Park

If you’re new in town, or want to take a walk through the city, Burj Park is perfect for skyscraper views. Leave your car behind and start at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. Walk along Emaar Square, cross over the road and start your walk at the foot of the Burj Khalifa.

Cross the bridge to Dubai Opera, and walk through Burj Park towards Palace Downtown Dubai. Take a stop at the Wings of Mexico statue for amazing views of the Burj Khalifa. Walk along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, where you’ll see famous names in the Dubai Stars. Continue towards The Dubai Mall, and if you time it right you can finish your evening stroll watching The Fountains over Burj Lake between 6.00pm and 11.00pm each night.

Top tip: You can hop on the Dubai Metro near Premier Inn Dubai Al Jaddaf to get to the Burj Khalifa.

2. Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk

To get the steps in and to fill your lungs with the fresh sea air, Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk’s 11km stretch is the place to begin, especially if you're staying near the Palm at Premier Inn Ibn Battuta Mall.

To go the full distance, start at Paradise Beach Club on the east of the crescent, and walk along the boardwalk until you reach the One&Only The Palm on the tip of the west crescent. You’ll start with views of Burj Al Arab and the Arabian Gulf and as you walk along the boardwalk, you’ll pass the famous hotels in Dubai, Atlantis The Palm, Waldorf Astoria and W Dubai. End your walk on the west crescent, with views of Jumeirah Beach and Bluewaters Island.

Top tip: There is little or no shaded areas on this walk, so best to go early morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday sun.

3. Silicon Oasis Lake

If you’re staying at Premier Inn Dubai Silicon Oasis, you can take a walk or run around the Silicon Oasis Lake. Found just behind Silicon Oasis HQ, it’s a calming retreat from the busy city.

From the hotel in Silicon Oasis, take a right and walk towards Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority HQ. As you walk around the building in the direction of the Fakeeh Medical Centre you will see the Silicon Oasis Lake on your left. The lake has a 1.2km jogging and walking track around the perimeter, and offers twinkling skyline views of Downtown Dubai in the early evening.

4. Kite Beach

This purpose-built boardwalk and jogging track is a great destination to a stroll along the promenade, or burn some calories with a light jog.

Starting at Jumeirah Public Beach at Umm Suqeim Park, the 7km track runs alongside Kite Beach through to Jumeirah 1, offering some of the best scenery along Dubai’s coast. You’ll pass by Dubai Off-Shore Sailing Club, have a chance to watch the kite surfers at the beach or take the opportunity to stop for a cold drink or ice cream as you pass by Kite Beach. You could even finish your walk with a dip in sea!

It’s a family-friendly route with the wide boardwalk providing lots of room to enjoy the outdoors. And if you don’t feel like walking the whole 7km path, it’s easy to break up into sections and create your own loop.
