Outdoor Parks in Dubai

24 Aug 2017

While Dubai is known for its iconic skyline and ultra-modern architecture, it’s also one of the greenest cities in the world. Both gardens and personal time are hugely important to the residents of Dubai, and that means a chance to spend time with the family in a beautiful park. Fortunately, Dubai has plenty of open spaces where you and your family can relax and spend time together. Here is our selection of the top parks in Dubai.

Safa Park

Safa Park has been at the very heart of the city for over 40 years, and its mature gardens and immaculately kept lawns are an absolute delight. It is home to over 200 species of birds, and the three lakes within its 150-acre space are filled with fish. There’s a tranquil waterfall and even a small forested area for woodland adventures with your family. Over 16,000 species of plants, shrubs and trees bring the park to life, and more than three-quarters of the park is grassed over, making it the perfect spot for picnics with the family. If you’re looking for something to do, children’s playgrounds and a funfair, as well as facilities, and cafés are available where you can grab a bite to eat.

Al Barsha Park

This is one of the city’s newest parks, and is an important part of the Dubai Pond Parks project. As you would guess, the ponds lie at the very heart of this park, creating a peaceful blend of land and water. The ponds all have walking and running tracks around the edges, and this is a great park to visit if you love keeping fit. Not only are there plenty of opportunities to walk, run and cycle, but the park also has basketball courts, tennis courts, football pitches and even a selection of fitness machines.

A unique park in its own way,  it’s a big hit with the kids. There’s everything from a forested area which is the remains of the original wooded ghaf forest, to a replica of Disney’s ‘It’s a Small Small World’. There’s even a zoo in the park, where kids can feed the goats or go on a camel ride. There’s a swimming pool to cool off in during summer, and barbeque areas so you can cook up a delicious meal with the family.

Safa Park 2

This is the smaller, quieter relative of the much larger Safa Park, and is a truly magical spot with beautifully landscaped lawns and plenty of green spaces. There are many playgrounds for kids of all ages, and its central location makes it popular with locals and visitors alike.

Za’abeel park

This is one of the biggest parks in Dubai and is close to the main residential parts of the city. That means it can get busy at weekends, but with so much to see and do in one park, it’s a great destination if you want some quality family time together. Look out for the StarGate kid’s entertainment zone, filled with things for younger visitors to see and do, or head to the lake and take a boat ride on the water.

There’s also a large amphitheatre, where performances draw in large crowds all year round. Parking can be in high demand, so it’s best to use public transport to get to the park, rather than join a queue for a parking spot.
