Eid al Adha Activities in the UAE for 2018

If your trip to the UAE happens to coincide with Eid al Adha celebrations then you’re in for a real treat. Taking place on the tenth day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, it lasts for at least two days. In 2018 Eid al Adha runs from August 21-23 with celebrations continuing on the 24th and 25th, and sees the Emirates alive with festivities, events, and activities. If you’re visiting the UAE for the first time and want to get the most out of Eid al Adha, here’s a guide to a few things to do during the holiday.

Watch the fireworks

Firework displays are an integral part of the Eid al Adha celebrations, bringing together locals and visitors in some of the Emirates most picturesque locations. In Dubai you can the enjoy the spectacle at both The Beach at the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and at Dubai Festival City Mall, both of which offer stunning views of the skyline. It’s an incredible backdrop for a display of colour that has to be seen to believed.

In Abu Dhabi, Yas Island is playing host to three fireworks displays over consecutive days, held at the spectacular Yas Marina promenade.

Visit a theme park

It’s commonplace for theme parks across the Emirates to host special events over the Eid al Adha holidays, offering you the chance to join in the Eid celebrations in a variety of settings. In Abu Dhabi Ferrari World at Yas Island, home to the world’s fastest rollercoaster, is organizing a series of activities for all the family, including Arabic dance shows, face paint stations, and Henna Majlis. 

The nearby Yas Waterworld is also joining in the celebrations with a number of activities and events including traditional cultural performances from local drummers and Ayalah dancers. Shop for bargains

The Emirates is home to some of the world’s most impressive shopping malls, with both Dubai and Abu Dhabi long recognised as two destinations where you can shop in style. During Eid al Adha celebrations shopping malls combine special events with increased opening hours, sales and promotions. If you’re holidaying in Dubai be sure to check out the Dubai Mall, The Outlet Village and the Mercato Shopping Mall, where you’ll enjoy musical entertainment, children’s workshops and more. Enjoy a meal with family

It’s tradition for families across the UAE to celebrate Eid al Adha by getting together for a meal or two. This practice has been embraced by the region’s many restaurants, which offer great deals over the holiday period. Take in a show

The UAE’s theatres play host to plenty of exciting and must-see shows throughout the holiday period. And there’s no show quite like La Perle, the spectacular water-based extravaganza, which has become one of Dubai’s most popular attractions since it opened in 2017, with discounts for group bookings available.
