It’s time to get your team shirt on and get ready to cheer some of the world’s greatest players on, as the 14th edition of the FIFA World Cup arrives in Abu Dhabi. All the action kicks off in December, with opening games on the 6th through to the 16th December. The eight title-deciding games will see some of the biggest names in the game taking to the field, all in the glamorous Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain’s Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium.
The UAE’s domestic Arabian Gulf League champions Al Jazira will be joined by arch rivals from the six confederations including UEFA’s Champions League, South America’s CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores, North America’s CONCACAF Champions League, Asia’s AFC Champions League, Africa’s CAF Champions League and Oceania’s OFC Champions League.
Everything to play for
The UAE champions will go head to head in a playoff match with the OFC Champions League winners Auckland City FC. This is a make or break match for the teams, with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs. The winner of that pivotal match will be joined by champions from North America, Asia and Africa, with Europe and South America joining in at the semi-final stage. The final will be played at the Zayed Sports City stadium on December 16th.
